But you know what, the trailer really doesn’t tell you much about the movie. I didn’t have much idea about the movie either before stepping into the theater.
At the beginning of the movie, I was reminded of Independence Day coz of the spaceship and the aliens. But when the slum came in, I was totally taken off guard by it. Then I simply just stopped guessing and let the movie take me.
A big chuck of this movie depicts government bureaucracy and human nature. People are selfish, they want to get what they want at the cost of others. Some choose to cover this ugliness with lies, while other are blunt about it. Honestly I was sickened by most of what I watched.
Then toward the end of the movie, I was once again taken off guard. I did not anticipate what the main character Wikus would do. He has pretty much given up on all hopes. And as a result he demonstrated protection in its purest form, not because of any selfish reasons. For that I would like to give him my applause.
To say the least, this is a great movie! I cannot wait for the sequel to come!
I just finished watching all of the NOOMA videos from 1 to 20. NOOMA is a series of short films produced by Flannel promoting spiritual perspectives on individual life experiences. The storyteller Rob Bell is the founding pastor of Mars Hill Bible Church. Each video is about 10 to 15 minutes.
The videos are so great that, I just don’t know how to put into words. Let’s just say, you know the guy is giving a message, but you are so deep into his story that you are just enjoying his story while taking in his message at the same time. These videos/messages are based on real life experience and biblical truth, and are presented in simple day-to-day words and images.
If you are a small group leader I will definitely recommend you to watch these nooma videos. There are also study guides available.
Here is the list of the videos:
001 | Rain: “Things don’t always work out the way we want them to.”
002 | Flame: “What’s up with the word love?”
003 | Trees: “Do our lives really matter?”

This movie “Saving Sarah Cain” is good! I don’t want to give the story away. So briefly this story is about this columnist Sarah who became the guardian of a few Amish children. These children moved to Sarah’s apartment. And as you know, that’s completely two different worlds! Things happen and toward the end Sarah realized something… and that’s what the story wants to tell its readers… wowoowowow~~~ Must watch!
This movie is based on the novel “The Redemption of Sarah Cain.”
I just watched the dvd “super size me“. I bought this long time ago but just never had time to watch it until today. The film maker Morgan Spurlock experimented on himself eating McDonald’s meals three times a day for 30 days straight. What a brave man! I mean, besides getting addicted to the fast food, and gaining 10% of his original body weight, he doubled the risk of getting heart attack, diabetes, and all kinds of health related issues. Oh, and he actually threw up in front of the camera one time.
I found this nutrition facts website called FastFoodNutrition.org. Hopefully you can spend a minute or two to just check out how much one single fast food meal contributes to your daily nutrition intake. Remember if you are not on diet, your normal calories intake is about 2000 units.
For you iphone users out there, this website lists the top 10 health related iphone apps. Hope you find some of them useful!
A few days ago one of my friends asked me to go watch “Slumdog Millionaire”. I saw some of the movie reviews saying it was a hype and all that, but I was like, ok, whatever, and went ahead to watch it. It turned out to be quite impressive to say the least. I was caught off-guard by the real life stuff in the movie. I don’t want to give away the storyline here. If you are like me, sick of all the usual princess-romance or explosion-violence movies, this is the one movie you got to watch!
