There’s been a lot of buzz on iphone and palm pre. Well, let’s look at the numbers. Apple says it sold more than 1 million iPhone 3GSs. Palm has sold 150,000 Pres.
Of course, I am sure there must be loopholes in getting these numbers. But hey, that’s still quite a big gap between 1,000,000 and 150,000 !!!
I think it is fair to say that, the app developers will flock to wherever having a bigger customer base. According to our numbers, iphone is the winner for now.
Recently I had a chance to try out the palm pre. From my brief encounter with it, I am still not convinced palm pre is any threat to apple’s iphone. Lack of apps is quite fatal.
I have been keeping an eye on this macbook pro 13” ever since it came out. If you too wanna take a look at it, there is no need to go to the apple store. Someone already took massive pictures and wrote a pretty good review on it. Things to notice is the new kind of battery, and the downgraded SATA connector speed. Everything else looks pretty awesome!
All of a sudden there are all these new search engines coming out. I wonder what’s going on… You should have heard of Microsoft’s BING by now. Here is a little video clip that highlights its features:
Oh my gosh! For all you programmers out there, you got to check out the google I/O videos where they introduced new apps and stuff. At least, you got to see the Google Wave video. I think that will revolutionize the way we email, blog, and do online communication and collaboration in general.
Most of you know already that Napster rolled out this $5 per month plan a week ago. I have been pretty skeptical about it for a while until I have done some research on it today. So far I believe this is the best deal you can find today… unless you do p2p. Yeah, unlimited streaming of particular songs, this surely beats pandora or the like. $5 to download 5 mp3 songs? That’s the market price. I don’t see any ripoff here. I then proceeded to sign up and found out that I have been a member with them since my college days… haha, those were the good old days. I had trouble using the online music player, but after installing the windows executable it worked perfectly fine. Man, music keeps me awake at home and at work, much better than coffee! Give it a try!
Boy… don’t they look similar? Meizu is apparently a cell phone company in China. Here is their official site and the eng version of it. I wonder how they got away with the copyright laws.
Wireless Data:
iPhone = Wi-Fi (802.11b/g), EDGE, Bluetooth 2.0
M8 = Bluetooth 2.0 + TV-Out
Operating System:
iPhone = Mac OS X Mobile
M8 = Windows CE 6.0
There isn’t much info about the app store yet, but I am pretty sure a Chinese version of the Apple appStore will come out in no time. After all, google has its app store, and microsoft is making their own as well.
Not sure how you can get an M8 at this point, but I guess asking one of your friends in China will be a good start.
Recently, WolframAlpha has been making some noise saying it can perform better searches than google. From what I understand, WolframAlpha claims to understand the words you type into the search bar, thus returning better search results, whereas google will only search your words literally with its PageRank algorithm. Say for example, if you type in “short CEO”, WolframAlpha will give you the info on the short CEO such as his name, his business, and so forth, while google will give you anything related to your search words.
I don’t think WolframAlpha will be anywhere close to being a threat to google. If anything, google can just buy them out.
WolframAlpha will be having their webcast soon on May 15th 7pm CST.
Pastors in Westwinds Community Church in Michigan spent two weeks teaching their congregation about Twitter, which allows users to send messages to each other which are no longer than 140 characters. Of the church’s 900 adult members, 150 are now tweeting.
The church encourages congregants to ask questions about a sermon that the pastor can answer later. Alternatively, they can “tweet” during the service in case another worshipper can provide enlightenment.
Um… I think we are entering a new era of worship… starting from old traditional, to women preaching, to contemporary music, now even to twitter! I think outwardly worship can take on many different forms, so long as we are connecting with God.
What I like about twitter is that:
1. You get to tell people whatever you like to, and vice versa.
2. You can choose from whom you want to hear.
3. I get tweets on my phone, meaning it’s instant and convenient.
